Trouble choosing the correct lash curl? Use this guide!

EXAMINE THE EYE SHAPE

Before deciding which lashes to use, you must examine the natural eye shape of your client. You can do this by looking at their front-facing and side profiles. Taking photos of both angles will help you better communicate your options to your client. When doing this, allow both the eye and browbone to be visible. Which is more prominent, the eyeball or the browbone? Which direction do her lashes natural go? These factors play an important role in picking the correct curl type. 

C CURL

The C curl is one of the most commonly used curls. It is best for first-time lashers since it is not too dramatic but still delivers an effortless look. It is recommended to be used on clients with deep-set eyes, to create an illusion of a more prominent brow bone. The C Curl can also be used on severely hooded eyes. 

D CURL

The D curl provides a more dramatic look and is used when the eyes reach farther than the brow bone. It is also recommended to be used on clients with mildly hooded eyes, mono-lids, and those with straight or downward-facing lashes. The D curl is never to be used on deep-set eyes.

DD CURL

The DD Curl is to be used on clients with naturally curled lashes, or those with a more prominent eyeball. 

L + L PLUS/LIFT CURL

The L and L Plus curls have a forced curl, which results in poor retention. They often get twisted and or fall out quickly. However, these lashes are highly recommended for one time events, such as wedding photos.

J + B CURL

The J + B curls are rarely used. They are flat and hardly noticeable from the front-facing view. 

DO NOT FORGET…

It is extremely important to accommodate your client’s lash goals. However, if their wants do not suit their eye shape, you must be able to suggest other options and be able to explain why. We all wish for our guests to leave feeling their beautiful, best selves!
